Sue Holm:Sue image COLUMNS

After a long career in teaching Visual Arts and Photography, artist Sue Holm decided it was  time to explore her own creative path.

I exhibit works in a variety of media including acrylics, watercolour, mixed media, drawing and assemblage sculpture.

They are responses to sights, colours, textures, and materials. Even fanciful imaginings, such as soaring over the landscape in my mind’s eye or remembering how something made me feel or how it might have triggered a deeply held memory.

As a sculptor, some of my materials are unconventional and might be found more readily on a building site than in an artist’s studio. I also love to use found or discarded objects for their inherently distressed qualities.

As a painter I love to work in broad areas of colour and then over-work the surface with line etc. The joy of painting is derived from the very qualities of the paint itself.

My aim is to create images, not pictures.

Sue can be seen working every Sunday 9-3 at her studio shop at the Penguin Undercover Market in Penguin Tasmania. There you will find most of the product range for sale as well as selected original pieces. Come along and say “Hi” as I am working on new pieces.

I would like to acknowledge the support of Arts Tasmania in the development of images for my unique Tasmanian range.

Artworks are held in private collections in all states of Australia as well as China, USA and France.
